Located in Western Africa, Burkina Faso has an estimated population of roughly 19 million people, and is among the countries with the highest fertility rates in 2016. That year, an estimated 5.79 children were born per woman on average. As a result of this, population growth in Burkina Faso is also remarkably high: The country registered one of the highest population growths worldwide in 2016, with its population growing by 3 percent compared to the previous year. The capital, Oualadougou, is the most populated city in the state.
