Egg industry in the U.S. - statistics & facts
The egg industry in the U.S. was impacted greatly from the avian flu since 2022, with consumers paying an average retail price of over six U.S. dollars for a dozen eggs as of March 2025, more than four times the price in 2020. This figure has since decreased, but remains elevated compared to previous years. There were almost 15 million fewer in 2024 in comparison to 2021 and dropped by almost three billion eggs during that time, reaching about 108.5 billion eggs in 2024.
