As of 2024, an estimated 745 million people live in Europe; this is roughly half the population of India or China, but double that of the United States . The continent makes up around nine percent of the global population and Russia is its most populous country with almost 145 million people, although 25 percent of these live in Asia. Among countries located entirely within Europe, Germany tops the list with 85 million residents.
