Residential solar photovoltaics in Europe - statistics & facts
The residential segment plays an important role in Europe’s solar market, accounting for roughly 24 percent of the European Union’s cumulative solar capacity. Overall, Europe’s residential solar installations have grown rapidly in the last few years, with capacity additions increasing from four gigawatts in 2019 to 18 gigawatts in 2023. Although the share of new home solar installations has decreased in market share relative to utility-scale and commercial projects, the installation of new residential solar systems is projected to continue increasing in the next years, with yearly capacity additions ranging from 23 to 28 gigawatts between 2025 and 2028.
