LGBTQIA in Spain - statistics & facts
According to a recent report from IPSOS, ten percent of the population in Spain identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Even if considered a Roman Catholic country, Spain was between the top five European countries scoring 78 percent overall on the Rainbow Europe index that measures the legal and political standing of LGBTQIA+ people in Europe, and Barcelona qualified as one of the best cities to live as an LGBTQIA+ citizen. Between the subindices, the Mediterranean country had its highest score in the Civil Society Spaces and Asylum category, and its lowest in hate-crimes and hate speech.
