The evolution of news consumption habits in the UK is in part driven by new technologies which impacted audience habits, not least social media, which plays a key role in how many UK consumers engage with the news. Even children as young as 12 years of age use social media for news, and these young consumers go to a variety of different platforms to keep themselves up to date. The rising popularity of social media platforms in recent years has accelerated the shift to digital news consumption and led to consumers bypassing traditional news outlets.
