Inflation in Brazil – statistics & facts
Latin America and the Caribbean have been experiencing high inflation rates for the last couple of years. The region is projected to reach an inflation rate of 16.7 percent in 2024, which is slightly lower than the rate of over 14 percent from the previous year. However, Latin America experiences two cases of hyperinflation in Argentina and Venezuela, thus raising the region's inflation rate. Following the 2021/2022 global inflation crisis, prices in Brazil also began to rise, and the Central Bank of Brazil decided to raise interest rates incrementally as a preventative measure. Inflation in Brazil began to fall gradually from June 2022. In September 2024, inflation is projected to be below five percent when compared to the same month of the previous year.
