Car-sharing in Europe - Statistics & Facts
Car-sharing schemes already had a decades-long history when this mobility service started becoming widely available in European cities in the 2010s. Previous iterations had, however, usually been small-scale and local. The introduction of app-based car-sharing schemes made them easier to administrate and use and improved the scalability of car-sharing services. In the five years between 2019 and 2024, the number of car-sharing users in Europe climbed from around 14.2 million to 18.8 million, and growth to 21.7 million users is projected for 2029.
