Emissions in Mexico - statistics & facts
In addition to being among the world’s 20 strongest economies, Mexico is also one of the world’s top greenhouse gas emitters. In 2023, more than 700 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂) were produced in the Latin American country, making it the region’s second-largest climate polluter, behind only Brazil. As a country that is already feeling the impacts of climate change, Mexico faces the challenge of tackling its rising emissions while also continuing its economic development.
