Healthcare in Czechia - statistics & facts
Czechia offers its citizens universal healthcare based on the compulsory insurance model. However, the healthcare system is under increasing strain due to the country's aging population. Since the beginning of the new millennium, the share of Czechs aged 65+ has increased by several percentage points. The older population requires more medical attention and higher spending since the state covers their health insurance. Additionally, the medical field was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, which challenged the limits of medical professions and further increased the costs of the whole healthcare system.
