Dairy industry in the Nordics - statistics & facts
The dairy industry involves the processing of raw milk into products such as consumption milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, condensed milk, powdered milk, and ice cream for consumers, using processes such as refrigeration, pasteurization, and homogenization. In the Nordic countries, the dairy market generated approximately 18.78 billion U.S. dollars in revenue in 2025. Although more and more people are switching to plant-based milk alternatives in Europe and the market is constantly growing, according to the ÌÇÐÄÆƽâ°æ Consumer Market Outlook, the dairy market will also continue to grow. In the Nordics, it is estimated to be worth nearly 25 billion U.S. dollars by 2030. Striking to see is that the largest share of the total revenue is not achieved with milk, but with cheese: cheese sales amounted to roughly six billion U.S. dollars in 2023, compared to around three billion U.S. dollars for milk.
