This statistic shows the total profit of PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A. from 2010 to 2018 (in U.S. dollars). PayPal's European division is headquartered and registered in Luxembourg since 18 April, 2007, and is licensed as a Luxembourg financial institution with supervision of the Luxembourg supervisory authority, the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF). In 2018, PayPal Europe reported an overall profit of *** million U.S. dollars, a decrease when compared to the previous year.

Within Europe there is a lot of diversity when it comes to the use of payment methods. Every country has its own way of paying money, with credit/debit cards, checks, mobile apps, NFC (Near-Field Communication, or contactless payments) and digital wallets being the most well-known digital payments methods in Europe. The large majority of payments in the euro area were made in shops, restaurants, petrol stations and street merchants, commonly referred to as POS or 'points of sale'. Cash was used most in the southern countries of Europe, as well as in Germany, Austria and Slovenia.
