Luxembourg’s renewable capacity comes mostly from one source

In Luxembourg, the highest renewable energy capacity was derived from hydropower. In 2023, the installed hydropower capacity in Luxembourg equaled to *** gigawatts. To a much lesser extent, some of Luxembourg’s renewable energy capacity also derived from photovoltaic and wind power. In 2023, the installed solar photovoltaic capacity amounted to *** megawatts and the installed wind capacity to *** megawatts in 2023. 

Luxembourg's renewable sector in the future

Luxembourg was one of the European Union countries with the lowest penetration rate of renewable energy. In 2023, the share of energy derived from renewable sources in Luxembourg reached over ** percent. However, in the European-Union’s transition to a more sustainable energy sector, Luxembourg aims at increasing its consumption of renewables.
