This statistic shows the share of Near Field Communication (NFC) transactions compared to total payments in Belgium in 2017 and 2018. Contactless payments are relatively new in Belgium and no other numbers on this topic are available as of yet. This shows in this statistic as the publisher used two different sources in different timeframes. Payment company CCV Belgium estimated that in April 2018 approximately **** percent of all their processed payments were contactless. In November 2018, the publisher quoted Mastercard which mentioned that **** percent of all their processed transactions in Belgium were contactless. This was considerably less than in other European countries.

Since the summer of 2017, for example, Belgian banks and retailers started to accept Android Pay. Also, mobile payment methods in general appear to be on the rise in Belgium, as respondents to a large e-commerce survey indicated an increased use of their bank's app along with PayPal in 2017, compared to 2016.
