Renewable energy generation source shares in the European Union 2013-2023
Hydropower has been the major renewable source in the electricity generation mix within the European Union until 2016. Wind power was the second major renewable source among those years, with shares increasing over the years. In 2017, wind power surpassed hydropower and it reached a share of almost 40 percent of the mix in 2023, while hydraulic power accounted for roughly 27 percent.
