The source adds the following information: "The data for the statistics are collected with an inquiry consisting of two parts. The monthly inquiry collects data on trips made by Finnish residents during the past three months, their numbers and characteristics. In 2019, data were exceptionally collected about trips during three previous months."
In the period from 2013 to 2019, the annual number of trips abroad made by Finnish residents increased from roughly *** to *** million. Due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic and the following travel restrictions, the annual number of trips abroad dropped drastically. In 2020, roughly *** million outbound trips were made from Finland. This continued to 2021 where *** million outbound trips were made. In 2023, the numbers of trips abroad increased again, reaching almost **** million trips.
