In 2023, AXA Belgium held the highest share of the Belgian liability insurance market (Algemene BA or algemene burgerlijke aansprakelijkheid in Flemish Dutch, RC générale in French) with **** percent. This was followed by AG Insurance and Ethias with **** percent and *** percent, respectively. In Belgium, liability insurance can be a part of a car insurance, family insurance or a property insurance. The property, or "fire" (in Dutch: brand), segment covers insurance for both contents and buildings. It protects insurers from damage through fire, but also catastrophe (flooding, lighting, snow) damage as well as vandalism. It comes closest to what in the United States is more commonly known as renters insurance or homeowners insurance, a concept that is not known in the Benelux region (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands). When it comes to the leading property and casualty (non-life) insurance companies, AXA also had the largest market share.
