The corruption perception index ranks 180 countries and territories by their perceived levels of public sector corruption according to experts and business people. To compile the corruption perception index data is pooled from various surveys and studies and a score between 0 and 100, where 0 is highly corrupt and 100 is very clean.
In 2020, Australia reached a Corruption Perception Index of 77. A score of 0 indicates high perceptions of corruption and a score of 100 indicates that no corruption is perceived. The CPI score of Australia has been the same for the past four years.
Points considered when calculating the perception of Australia's levels of corruption include: bribery of public officials, kickbacks in public procurement, embezzlement of state funds, and how effective public sector anti-corruption efforts have proven to be.
