PM10 are suspended particles whose diameter is less than 10 micrometers.
International air and maritime transportation, and Land-Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF) are not included in the balance.

Particulate matter PM10 emitted in the air in France 2005-2023, by sector
The buildings and residential activities sector was the main source of airborne particulate matter PM10 emissions in France between 2005 and 2023. PM10 from the residential housing sector is typically emitted by domestic biomass combustion for cooking and heating. The transportation sector strongly contributed to the decrease in PM10 emissions over the years, having reduced the total amount of PM10 released in the air by more than ** percent compared to the volume emitted in 2005. Emissions from the manufacturing industry and agriculture sectors only slightly decreased. In 2023, these two sectors combined represented about ** percent of the PM10 emissions in France.
