In 2024, Peru's copper mines produced **** million metric tons of metal, a slight decrease from the previous year. Amidst lockdown measures and contact restrictions implemented to slowdown the spread of the coronavirus, copper mines in the country had their activities suspended or severely reduced in 2020, recording an output below 2019 levels throughout the year. Nevertheless, Peru remained the third largest copper-producing country in 2024, ranking only behind neighboring Chile and DR Congo.
