The Cullinan Diamond, discovered at the Premier No. 2 mine in Cullinan, South Africa, on January 26, 1905, is the largest gem-quality rough diamond that has ever been found. With a weight of 3,106 carats, it is nearly twice as large as the second largest diamond ever found, the near gem quality Sewelô diamond from the Karowe mine in Botswana, which amounts to 1,758 carats.
