The producer price index (PPI) of the wood, paper and cardboard products' industry in France reached index points in January 2023. This was the record-high figure since 2005. Between 2011 and 2021, the industry's PPI was relatively constant at around , while in the decade before it fluctuated more notably.
An increase in the PPI is connected to a higher inflation in the relevant industry sector. Changes in wood and paper prices were caused by a wood shortage that started at the end of 2020 due to the then-ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
