The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic disrupted international tourism in 2020, as governments worldwide implemented travel bans and stay-at-home orders to limit the spread of the virus. Due to the pandemic, the annual expenditure of international tourism in Italy declined sharply in 2020 over the previous year. Overall, spending of inbound tourists who visited the country for personal reasons amounted to roughly **** billion euros in 2020, dropping from approximately **** billion in 2019. Meanwhile, the expenditure of international business tourists decreased from *** billion in 2019 to around *** billion in 2020.
