TOP-TOY was a Danish company, operating BR and Toys”R”Us stores in Northern Europe. In December 2018, the toy retailer filed for bankruptcy. The company’s revenue fluctuated in the financial period of 2013/2014 to 2017/18. As of the last financial year, it generated a revenue of roughly 3.1 billion Danish kroner. In the same time, the operating profit fluctuated as well. In 2017/18, TOP-TOY generated the largest operating loss, amounting to 1.8 billion Danish kroner.  

Salling Group

    After TOP-TOY was bankrupt, the Salling Group made a purchase agreement with the toy retailer and bought TOP-TOY's total Danish inventory and the right to the BR name and BR's brands in the Danish market. The Salling Group, formerly known as Dansk Supermarked Group, is a retail group, consisting of physical and online stores in Denmark. In the period from 2012 to 2018, the Salling Group’s net revenue increased constantly and peaked in 2018 at around 59 billion Danish kroner.  

 Toy consumption 

Overall, the average household consumption expenditure on toys and party supplies in Denmark decreased in recent years. In 2007, Danish households spent on average approximately 1.8 thousand Danish kroner on toys. By comparison, in 2018, this figure declined to roughly 1.3 billion Danish kroner.
