Volatility is an indicator that allows quantifying the probability of sudden changes in the prices of the different values.
The IBEX 35 is the main reference index of the Spanish stock market, composed of the 35 most liquid securities listed in the Stock Exchange Interconnection System of the four Spanish stock exchanges (Madrid, Barcelona, ​​Bilbao and Valencia). Technically it is a price index, weighted by capitalization and adjusted by the floating capital of each company that is part of the index.
The year with the greatest volatility of the IBEX 35 during the analyzed period was 2008, in which the indicator exceeded ** percent. Volatility decreased from 2017 onwards, leveling off around ** percent, with the exception of 2020, when the annualized volatility reached percent.
