Catalonia was the autonomous community with the highest number of patients waiting to receive surgery, with approximately 165.5 thousand patients. Andalusia ranked second, with over 136 thousand people awaiting surgery. As of that year, nearly 700 individuals died from medical malpractice in Spain.
