According to a survey conducted in 2022, the most used digital music service in Denmark was YouTube. Over two thirds of respondents stated to listen to music via this platform. The Swedish provider Spotify came second, with 42 percent of individuals using it. The only domestic digital music service that was found in the ranking was YouSee Musik.

Streaming music is becoming more and more popular

Another survey found that the usage of online music services in Denmark steadily increased in recent years, amounting to 66 percent in 2018. In 2014, not even a half of respondents stated to listen to music via the internet. In particular, streaming music is most common among the youngest age groups. While 64 percent of 16 to 19-year-olds used this medium, only four percent of people aged 75 to 89 years listened to online music in 2020.

Growth of the digital music industry in Denmark

Similarly, the digital music industry in Denmark is greatly on the rise. In 2019, online music revenues accounted for more than 90 percent of the whole Danish music industry. Furthermore, over 1.4 billion Danish kroner were generated by streaming in 2017. By contrast, sales revenues from physical media, such as CDs and vinyl, amounted to 123 million Danish kroner.
