In January 2017, we asked tea drinkers in Germany which brand they usually used at home. Of the *** respondents, ** percent named Meßmer and ** percent said they drink Teekanne teas. In addition to Milford and Lipton, these brands were the leaders when it comes to at-home tea consumption in Germany.

Hot drink consumption

Consumers in Germany were more than twice as likely to drink tea made with a teabag and not with loose tea in 2018. However, coffee still beat tea in popularity on the German market. Over three quarters of consumers stated in 2017 that they would drink one to three cups of tea each day.

Hot drinks in the beverage market

When it comes to all non-alcoholic beverages, both hot drinks have slightly declined in the favor of German consumers. In the last three years, tea was the sixth most consumed or purchased beverage, while coffee made third place behind water and fruit drinks or juices.
