Monitoring the Future is an ongoing study of the behaviors, attitudes, and values of American secondary school students, college students, and young adults. Each year, a total of approximately 50,000 8th, 10th and 12th grade students are surveyed (12th graders since 1975, and 8th and 10th graders since 1991).

Citation formats

In 1998, around 44.5 percent of 12th graders in the U.S. said that they believed steroids were easy to get, compared to 15.5 percent in 2024. Steroids are performance-enhancing drugs that are sometimes used by athletes illegally. This statistic shows the percentage of 12th graders in the U.S. who believed that steroids were easy or fairly easy to obtain from 1991 to 2024.
