The useful floor area of commercial buildings whose construction was authorized in Italy amounted to over million square meters in 2024. In the aftermath of the financial crisis of 2008, there was a strong decline in the surface area that permits authorized for construction, decreasing from over **Â million square meters in 2005 to million square meters in 2014.
