Similarly, the revenue ranking of the largest cinemas in Norway is dominated by these two chains. The Nordisk Film Kino in Oslo came first in 2022, generating a revenue of about *** million Norwegian kroner. 

Cinema admissions in Norway

The market shares of Norwegian cinema chains are based on the number of admissions in cinemas. Nordisk Film Kino recorded almost **** million visitors in 2023. ODEON had roughly **** million admissions. In total, cinemas in Norway reported **** million moviegoers that year. That marks an increase of almost *** thousand compared to the previous year, recovering slightly from the coronavirus pandemic that resulted in theater closures.

Visitors’ age

Especially younger people tended to go to the cinema. According to a survey from 2021, the share of ** to 15-year-old Norwegians visiting the cinema at least once a year amounted to ** percent. By contrast, only ** percent of people aged 67 to 79 years saw movies in cinema in the preceding 12 months.
