In Canada, the median waiting time between an appointment with a specialist and treatment exceeded the clinically reasonable wait time for 2024. This was true across nearly all 12 specialties surveyed, except radiation oncology.

The gap between actual and clinically reasonable wait times varied from one specialty to another. For instance, while the clinically appropriate wait time for an orthopedic surgery was only **** weeks, the median wait time from an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon to the actual surgery was **** weeks. Nonetheless, for urgent surgeries or oncological treatment, wait times were much shorter and more in line with clinically reasonable wait times, such as in the case of cardiovascular surgery where the median wait time was *** weeks compared to the clinically reasonable wait time of *** weeks.
