The Coastwise Shipping Business Act (Act No. 151 of 1950) obliges shipowners to register/report vessels used for domestic port-to-port freight shipping businesses, as defined by this act, at/to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Moreover, shipowners must report their vessels for private use even if they do not employ them for such businesses but utilize vessels of at least 100 gross tons or 30 meters in length for coastwise shipping.
This survey limited its scope of freight on business-use vessels to that on vessels of at least 20 gross tons.
