This statistic shows the results on a survey question on the confidence about contactless payment security in the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) ****. Of the Benelux countries, Dutch respondents are the most confident about contactless payments, with approximately ** percent of the respondents indicating a level of security when using contactless payments. The European consumer on average, though, displays a greater confidence in this new technology than the consumers from the Benelux. NFC payments were introduced in the Netherlands in 2014 and mainly involves contactless payments made at points of sales, with either a debit card or a mobile phone or payments via QR codes. These methods are supported and developed by Dutch banks, such as ING and Rabobank, with larger Fintech-services such as Android Pay, Apple Pay and Pay from Samsung not yet being released in the Netherlands. In the summer of 2017, ABN Amro, ING, Rabobank and De Volksbank will launch the overarching payment service of Payconiq, which was already tested in Belgium and uses QR codes.
