The global demand for instant noodles has steadily increased in recent years. According to a report, the global demand for instant noodles amounted to approximately *** billion servings in 2022. For 2023, values declined for the first time in multiple years and fell by about *** billion servings. By 2024, however, the demand was higher than ever, at * billion servings.
By far, the highest demand for instant noodles comes from China/ Hong Kong. The demand for instant noodles in China/ Hong Kong amounted to over ** billion servings in 2024. In second place was Indonesia, with approximately **** billion servings. In the United States, there were around **** billion servings. The United Kingdom (UK) was not among the top ten countries. The demand for instant noodles in the UK has grown from around *** in 2019 to *** million servings in 2023.Â
Asia and Oceania made up nearly ** percent of global demand for instant noodles in 2021. China's share alone was over ** percent. Both Malaysia and Indonesia have seen increases in their demand for instant noodles in the past years, while the demand in South Korea has also increased in the past year. In May 2020, the year-on-year growth rate of instant noodle exports from South Korea was at approximately ** percent. The main destination for South Korean exports of instant noodles is China, with an import value of more than *** million U.S. dollars. In second and third places were the United States and the Netherlands, with import values of and ** million U.S. dollars, respectively.
The South Korean company Nongshim is one of the main players in the instant noodle market. Nongshim's annual sales revenue from noodles amounted in 2024 to approximately ****Â trillion South Korean won, up from **** trillion won in 2013. Another big player in the instant noodle market is the South Korean grocery company Samyang. Samyang Food's sales revenue amounts to about *** trillion South Korean won. The Japanese company Nissin Foods is also among the leading companies for instant noodles. Nissin Foods' revenue comes to over ***Â billion Japanese yen.
