This statistic shows the transfer balance of European football leagues in the summer transfer windows of 2016 and 2017 (in million euros). In both years, clubs from the English Premier League reached the lowest transfer balance as they spent the most money on signing new footballers, either from domestic clubs or from clubs abroad. This is part due to the 2016-2019 TV deals Premier League clubs have. The Italian Serie A and French Ligue 1, however, also spent more money in the summer of 2017 than in 2016. In the summer of the 2017/2018 season, Brazilian football player Neymar switched from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain for a transfer fee of *** million euros. It became the highest transfer fee ever paid, up to August 2017.
