Undergrounding involves the replacement of overhead lines, with underground cables. The source adds that Distribution Network Operators have replaced a significant number of overhead lines with underground cables under the undergrounding allowance since 2006/7. The current price control, DPCR5 (2010-15), has an undergrounding budget of £61 million; and the RIIO-ED1 (2015-23) price control has a budget of £104 million.
