The economically inactive population includes those who are neither employed nor looking for employment. As of March 2024, Italy's economically inactive population amounted to 12.3 million people. Between 2019 and 2024, the highest number of inactive people was registered in the second quarter of 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.
