In 2020 and 2021, the unemployment benefit expenditure in Sweden was significantly higher than in previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. About 10 billion Swedish kronor more were paid out in 2020 than in 2019. In 2022, the number was down to pre-pandemic levels.
