All parents who have custody of a child are entitled to parental benefit. Parental benefits can also be taken out before the birth if the mother wants to reduce work time. If the baby is born 2014 or later, the parents can receive parental benefit until the day the child turns 12 years old. For children born before 2014 the limit is 8 years old or the age when they start first year of primary school.
