The number of civil partnerships has been decreasing in Sweden since 2012 due to the enactment of the same-sex marriage law on May 1, 2009. From that date no new civil partnerships can be contracted in Sweden. In 2012, there were nearly 3,100 civil partnerships registered in Sweden, whereas this number had fallen to 1,600 by 2022.
