In 2022/23, the top reason for hospital stays in Canada was to give birth. That is, more than one in ten hospitalization were due to giving birth. The second most common diagnosis that year was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and bronchitis at just 2.4 percent. COVID-19 is still in the top ten list, but moved down to number seven ( 2 percent), compared to number two ( 2.7 percent) in 2021/22.
