British fashion retailer New Look owns stores in **** other countries outside the United Kingdom (UK). While in the fiscal year 2017/2018 China came in second place, New Look decided later in 2018 that it was stepping out of that market and closing all its Chinese stores. Revenue figures from the retailer’s international segment help illuminate the reasoning behind this decision.    

Turbulent times for New Look

  In the past two years, like-for-like sales of New Look have experienced a distressing fall.  Previously, the retailer had been successful in stabilizing its poor sales figures. In the first half of the financial year 2018/2019, New Look announced its turnaround measures delivered desired profitability, yet a full picture of the retailer’s strategy to rebuild its business will likely emerge after the full year comes to a close.    

Online sales also hit

   New Look Fashion Retailers is one of the UK’s established multichannel retailers. The channels New Look operates include online, mobile, third party e-commerce sellers, as well as hybrid channels such as click and collect. In 2018, New Look brand e-commerce sales also suffered compared to the previous year’s performance. For the financial year 2017/2018, the retailer saw improved revenue figures only in the third party e-commerce and franchise sales worldwide.
