As of 2024, Germany spent nearly percent of its GDP on healthcare. In comparison to other European countries, this ranked Germany third in terms of health expenditure in that year. Top of the list was Switzerland, which spent over percent of its GDP on healthcare in that year.  

Healthcare quality and cost in Germany

Despite the increasing healthcare expenditure, just * in ** Germans say the quality of health care they have access to is good or very good, while * in ** said it was poor. In comparison, ** percent reported they have good or very good health care in the Netherlands, a comparable neighboring country. Furthermore, roughly a third of Germans agreed that many people in their country could not afford good health care, while a similar percentage disagreed.
