The road freight transport volume in Poland saw no significant changes in 2023 in comparison to the previous year 2022 and remained at around * million ton-kilometers. Still, 2023 marked the third consecutive decline of the transport volume.

Freight transport industry in Poland 

Freight was imported and exported from the country in many ways. This was highlighted by a growing trend in Polish trade, with the volume of cargo handled at the nation's seaports rising significantly since 2013. In that year, just over * tons were traded at Polish ports, a figure that nearly doubled to almost ** tons by 2022. In contrast, the volume of cargo transported by rail has fallen slightly since 2004, although the volume has fluctuated between *** and *** million tons since 2009. 

Passenger transport sector: millions of commuters and high employment

The transport sector in Poland remained highly active beyond freight traffic. Despite a slight decline in the number of transported passengers since 2012, nearly *** million people were transported within the country in 2023. These numbers also reflected the need for a large workforce in the transportation sector. In 2023, more than ** people were employed in this industry, with the vast majority working in the private sector rather than the public sector.
