The total sales volume of passenger cars in the Netherlands fluctuated mainly between 312,000 and 550,000 from 2010 to 2023. The highest volume was reached in 2011 with some 555,900 car sales. By 2023, nearly 370,000 cars were sold in the country, an uptick of 18.5 percent compared to the previous year.

Popularity of German cars

With around 35,000 passenger cars sold, Volkswagen had the highest sales volume of passenger cars in the Netherlands in 2023. Å koda, Audi, and SEAT, which also ranked in the 20 most popular brands in the country, are part of the Volkswagen Group.

Tesla in the Netherlands

The Dutch sales volume of Tesla models had been on an upward trend up until 2019, when the American automaker sold nearly 31,000 vehicles in the Netherlands, up from just under 8,600 the previous year. In 2020, sales were again down to just under 9,000, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on car sales. Still, as of July 2024, the Tesla Model 3 was the leading fully electric passenger car model in circulation in the Netherlands.
