The total assets of financial institutions in Germany increased overall between 2002 and 2024, despite some fluctuations across institutions. In 2024, the assets of the central bank dropped by notable amounts, from over **** trillion U.S. dollars in 2021 to less than *** trillion U.S. dollars. On the other hand, bank assets increased from 9.6 trillion U.S. dollars in 2021 to nearly **** trillion U.S. dollars in 2024. All the other institutions, including insurance corporations, pension funds, other financial intermediaries, and financial auxiliaries, also saw their assets rise in 2024.
