The total assets of pension funds worldwide overall increased during the last decade. The value grew from around 26.1 trillion U.S. dollars in 2009, up to more than 56 trillion U.S. dollars in 2023. The largest pension fund market in the world as of 2023 was the United States, with total assets almost ten times as large as the second-largest pension fund market, which was Canada.
