In 2024, men in England aged between 16 and 24 years consumed on average 21.2 units of alcohol per week*, while women in the same age group drank on average 9.1 units per week. It is recommended that men and women should not regularly exceed fourteen units of alcohol in a week. For example, fourteen units of alcohol is equivalent to six pints of four percent beer.

Correlation in hospital admissions

Since 2007, the number of hospital admissions for alcoholic liver disease has more than doubled in England. Increasing from 38 thousand admissions to over 85 thousand admissions in 2023. In response to the connection between poor health and alcohol consumption, many people who drink alcohol attempt to moderate their alcohol consumption through various methods.
