Renewable energy in this statistic is based on gross generation from renewable sources and does not account for cross-border electricity supply. Converted on the basis of thermal equivalence, where "Input-equivalent" energy is the amount of fuel that would be required by thermal power stations to generate the reported electricity output.
Figures for years not included in the PDF version were taken from the Excel file of the Statistical Review of World Energy Data.
